Fracture Repair

Broken bones (fractures) are frequently diagnosed in dogs and cats following trauma. The most commonly fractured bones include the tibia, femur, pelvis, humerus, radius and ulna. Some dogs and cats will have additional injuries such as bruised lungs, ruptured urinary bladder, injured soft tissues, and concurrent broken bones. These additional injuries are most commonly encountered after being hit by a car or other severe trauma.

Many fractures require surgical repair to achieve bone healing, minimize arthritis, and restore function. The method of repair depends on the type of fracture and the affected bone. We use state-of-the-art techniques and orthopedic implants, such as locking bone plates, to help maximize patient outcome and reduce complications.
