It is a stressful time when surgery is needed for our pets. Choosing a surgeon can also be stressful and confusing. How are we different from other options in the area?
- Board-Certified Surgeon
- Facility Designed for Orthopedic Surgery
- Arthroscopy – Less Invasive
- Specialist Trained Staff
- Overnight Care & Monitoring
- Consultation, surgery, and follow-up with YOUR surgeon
- Competitively Priced
Our Surgeon is a Board-Certified Specialist, meaning after graduating vet school, he continued training (internships; residency) for many additional years. This process is similar to medical doctors going through residency training following medical school to become a specialist. Learn more about veterinary specialists at ACVS.org.
Our NEW FACILITY was designed for specialty Orthopedic Surgery. Our goal is to minimize complications and maximize patient outcome. Many primary care facilities are equipped and maintained for general surgeries/procedures, however Specialty Orthopedics should be held to the highest standard. Facility design, standards, and training contribute to positive outcomes. Compare your child’s pediatrician’s office to a hospital’s operating room. This difference also exists in veterinary medicine.
If you needed ACL surgery, would you choose less invasive surgery using a small camera (arthroscopic surgery) or would you want your knee opened up all of the way (arthrotomy)? Arthroscopic surgery in dogs has shown the same advantages as for people – less invasive, lower infection rate, faster recovery, more precise diagnosis and treatment. Arthroscopic surgery is our standard of care and should be for your pet too!
We do not perform traveling surgery for a number of reasons (we would be happy to discuss them all at your consultation!). We like to meet our clients in person, evaluate our patients, and discuss which options are best for their condition and for each family, prior to jumping into surgery. We also believe our pets deserve overnight pain management, monitoring, and nursing care following a major surgery. Lastly, follow-up (rechecks) with YOUR surgeon ensures your pet’s recovery is right on track and no adjustments are indicated to minimize complications.
We are competitively priced based on our area. Many assume the cost for a specialist in a specialized facility greatly exceeds the cost of a similar procedure (CrCL tear for example) performed at a primary care vet’s facility. However this is not the case. Our cost is similar to traveling surgeons performing surgery at a local vet office, University of Missouri, and VSS.
